Public Holiday - Adam Scott Day

McLeod

McLeod

14 turned out for McLeod game in glorious weather, that I wasn’t expecting after the downpours the day before, so even with the low parts of the course being a bit damp I thought on the whole it was a good day for golfing.

Nice to see George & Ken back on the podium and a very good performance by Ash who will see his handicap falling after a runaway win, 6 points clear of the rest of the field. He’s been tweaked a little on his driving & it certainly paid dividends, well done Ash.

We gentlemen of the club are going to have to try really hard this year for the NTP & LD prizes with two now familiar faces grabbing the points again (more coughing, bag zipper, Velcro glove & anything noises you care to introduce to the Tee box as they are ready to take their shots please) Failing that non lethal force is acceptable.

Here are the results for McLeod:

1st place on 41pts – Ashutosh Misra

2nd place on 35pts – George Chapman

3rd place on 32pts – Ken Greedy

NTP on the 6th – Troy Grimshaw

NTP on the 16thth – N/A

Men’s L/D 9th – Ian Smith

Ladies L/D 9th – Karen Greedy

Next game is at Windaroo on the 19th of May. (8.20am tee off)

Mt Warren Park game 17th March 2013

Mt Warren Park game 17th March 2013.

18 turned out for Mt Warren game, our biggest group for a very long time, so a big thanks to all of you.

Unfortunately for us the Mt Warren club were a bit lax in the timing department (I believe the social group ahead of ours had more players than they had been expecting) Normally they are quite good with previous games being about on time, so I think the benefit of the doubt should be given.

But on top of that we had one of the hottest days for ages & the game seemed to go on and on (especially if you played badly, like me)
I think we may have seen the last of the days where the mere mortals amongst us had a reasonable chance of picking up an odd NTP or LD prize (remember we’d have the scraps from Ian’s table before) well now there is another player in the mix who isn’t leaving scraps for anyone.

Well done to Troy, thankfully Phil & Dan were around to stop you from getting a grand slam (I’m not sure if it’s been done before in the clubs history – the three prize holes and a win?)
Phil’s march to the top has been short, gaining more points for every game he’s played, well I’m sure this won’t be missed by the handicapper, so that’ll put an end to that. (That’s what you get Phil for living fast & loose) well done to him.

Here are the results for Mt Warren Park:
1st place on 38pts – Phillip Dawson
2nd place on 36pts – Dan Williams
3rd place on 34pts – Troy Grimshaw

NTP on the 9th – Troy Grimshaw
NTP on the 16thth – Troy Grimshaw
Men’s L/D 17th – Troy Grimshaw
Ladies L/D 17th – Janine Walker

Next game is at McLeod on the 14th of April. Due to the lateness of Mt Warren game, we will try to hold the (short) AGM after McLeod’s game, please if you want to try helping out the club the secretary position is up for grabs (remember, most of the work has been done for this year, so you can cruise until November/December)

Virginia game 10th February 2013

Virginia game 10th February 2013

A group of 12 turned out for our first game of the season, thank you to all those for turning up. It was good to see some familiar faces after such a long break. Also thanks to a new face on the course, Troy Grimshaw.

We should have called it our Sand green championship match! The sort of conditions on which you’d normally expect some low point totals, but it’s apparent that some folks, dare I say, quite enjoyed the it.

Congratulations to anyone who got a score in the low to mid 30’s, I think that was quite good going considering.

Well done to Janine who played off her (lower) Nudgee handicap (rather than her GUSGC one) and managed a very good 2nd place.

And especially well done to Karen who notched up the first win of the season on an excellent score of 38pts, playing very nicely from what we were told by here group partners.

Perhaps we could have called this the Ladies day match.

Here are the results for Virginia:

1st place on 38pts – Karen Greedy

2nd place on 36pts – Janine Walker

3rd place on 35pts – Dan Williams

NTP on the 12th – George Chapman

NTP on the 3rd – Troy Grimshaw

Men’s L/D on the 16th- Troy Grimshaw

Ladies L/D on the 16th- Janine Walker

Next game is at Mt Warren Park on the 17th of March.

Regards,

Paul (Captain)

Golf: 10 February at Virginia Golf Club

Hello everyone and welcome to 2013!!!

As I write this email the sun has broken through the clouds and the long term forecast is looking pretty good (I seem to remember penning a similar line last year - these wet starts to the year have to stop!!). Anyway, hopefully all will be well for our first game of 2013. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to another great year (especially Paul - who I know wants to enact revenge on Mark for taking out the trophy) with the first round at Virginia Golf Club on Sunday 10 February, arrival at 6.48am for tee-off at 7.03am (from the 10th tee).

The address is Elliott Road, Virginia. The number for the Pro-shop is 3267 7057 if you wish to book a cart.

To get there follow the Gateway motorway north from the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges (nee Gateway bridge). Approximately 9kms north of the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges take the Nudgee exit (where the Shell Service Station is located). Approximately 100 metres after exiting you will reach a t-intersection, this is Nudgee Road. Turn right into Nudgee Road. This will lead you back to the Gateway Motorway (approximately 500 metres). Just before you reach the motorway, turn left into Childs Road. Follow Childs Rd for about 500 metres and you will reach the intersection of St Vincents Road. Turn left. Follow St Vincents Road for about 2 kilometres and turn right into Blizinger Road. Follow Blizinger Road (about 500 mteres) to the entrance of Virginia Golf Club. If you are heading in from the north, take the Nudgee Road exit and then turn right over the Motorway into Nudgee Road. Cross the bridge over the Motorway and immediately turn right into Childs Road. Follow the directions as above to Virginia. If you want to travel from the city direction, my best suggestion is to purchase a referdex or satnav, there are too many turns and twists to describe in this email!! From the city I estimate the drive time to be about 20 minutes (at that time of morning).

Please email (or call) as soon as possible if you are attending the game so I can organise numbers with Virginia. Remember to check the club blog for news.

Yours,

Oxley game December 2012 (last game in the 2012 Fed Up Cup)

Oxley game December 2012 (last game in the 2012 Fed Up Cup)

13 braved potential heat exhaustion for our traditional last game of the season – The Race to Oxley to decide the Fed Up Cup for 2012.

When the end came two players were just too good for the rest of us in their quest for the cup: the reigning champ (Ian Smith) and one of our most improved players for the year (Mark Coster).   A notable mention goes to Fred Hill, who had a very good day as well, but was not in the cup running (but look out if he gets more games in).

Here are the results for Oxley:

1st place on pts – 39pts Ian Smith (on count back)
2nd place on pts – 39pts Fred Hill
3rd place on pts – 34pts Mark Coster (on count back)
(Owen also on 34pts missed out on count back)

NTP on the 5th – Ian Smith
NTP on the 9th – Fred Hill
Men’s L/D 17th – Mark Coster
Ladies L/D 17th – Not taken

The upshot of the final game for 2012 is the new club champion is:
Mark Coster, who pipped Ian by the narrowest of margins.

Congratulations to Mark, who over the season has been consistently ticking the scoreboard over with: one first outright, one joint first in the special game, one second, two thirds and a missed third on count back, three NTP’s and two L/D’s.

Also the Coster Boys were the only two players who played every game of the season, so thanks for your commitment to the club (look out at committee nomination time)..

All that’s left to say to all of you is have a very merry Christmas and New Year, I hope to see you all as often as possible in the fight for the Fed Up Cup 2013.

Paul (Captain)
