Golf: 14 October at Nudgee Golf Club (South course)

Hello everyone

A great game at Carbrook (or so Paul says - and I'm sure he is a little biased). We are now at the back end of the season and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to another nice sunny day for the next round of the 2012 season...I know I am. A great chance to close the gap on the leader board. This round is at Nudgee Golf Club (South course) on Sunday 14 October, arrival at 7.30am for tee-off at 7.45am. I love these late starts!

The address is 1207 Nudgee Road, Nudgee. The number of the pro shop is 3267 5885 (for cart bookings).

To get there follow the Gateway motorway north from the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges (nee  Gateway bridge). Approximately 9kms north of the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges take the Nudgee Beach exit (where the Shell Service Station is located). Approximately 100 metres after exiting you will reach a t-intersection, this is Nudgee Road. Turn right into Nudgee Road. This will lead you back over the Gateway Motorway (approximately 500 metres). Once you have crossed over the motorway, entry into Nudgee GC is approximately 100 metres on your right. If you are heading in from the north, take the Nudgee Road exit and veer left into Nudgee Road. The entrance to the golf course is approximately 50 metres on your right. From the city I estimate the drive time to be about 20 minutes (at that time of morning). Please email me (or call) as soon as possible if you are attending the game so I can organise numbers with Nudgee. Remember to check the club blog for news.

Yours,
Owen

Carbrook Game 23rd September 2012

Carbrook Game 23rd September 2012

Carbrook’s course was in very good nick as they had just finished the third round of their own championship and with fine weather it made for a nice days golfing.
The fact is folks I could wax lyrical about the conditions & the weather, the birds singing etc etc, but that’s only because I had a very good game, if I’d played poorly I’d be picking fault with everything about the day (too hot, greens too quick blah blah blah)
Good to see Jane back at her home course and playing well, also Rodney on his home course picking up his second long drive for the year (you just have to get it on the fairway and you stand every chance)
Also well done to Ian getting third (on reduced hcp for this game) Phil for picking his first NTP and Fred, who had an equal 3rd but missed out on count back.
I look forward to seeing you all (and more) for the trip over the river (take a packed lunch for the journey) next month.

Here are the results for Carbrook:
1st place on 38pts – Paul Lockwood-Lee

2nd place on 33pts – Jane Hughes

3rd place on 32pts – Ian Smith

(Equal 3rd but missed out on count back – Fred Hill)

NTP on the 7th – Phil Dawson

NTP on the 14th – not taken

Men’s L/D 4th – Rodney Topor

Ladies L/D 4th – Jane Hughes

Regards,

Paul (Captain)

(Next game 14th October, at Nudgee South)

Etiquette tip du jour: Don’t forget to put your rakes in the bunkers after use please.

Gainsborough Greens game 9th September 2012

Gainsborough Greens game 9th September 2012.

A very pleasant day was had by everyone at this our slotted in game (there is another one in two weeks time, with this amount of practice we’ll all be finely tuned pro’s soon).

Most people enjoyed the course, which seemed to play very fairly so long as you kept to the shorter stuff, the big problem I had (and I think some others) was the dreaded putter, with some very short ones going past the edge on way too many occasions.

The reigning club champion was back in form this for this game, with a very comfortable winning margin over the field (let’s hope Ken sorts him out for the next game, and make him play off scratch). Well done Ian, and all those who took home points and balls for this game.

Could I ask all those who think they may have a chance at winning any of the next few games to not practice please, the league table is getting a bit congested at the top & frankly I preferred it when my lead was much healthier, thanks.

Here are the results for Gainsborough:
1st place on 38pts – Ian Smith
2nd place on 31pts – Rodney Topor
3rd place on 30pts – Karen Greedy

NTP on the 3rd – Mark Coster
NTP on the 16th – not taken
Men’s L/D 5th – Ian Smith
Ladies L/D 5th – Karen Greedy

Paul (Captain)
