Oxley game, 1st December 2019

 Oxley game, 1st December 2019
Only the 7 players for what could be described as the desert classic.
Poor Oxley is really in a bad state due to the lack of rain,
fingers crossed they got some later on in the afternoon.
We all had to play the same conditions, so no great hardship for us,
but we all need to get a good downpour soon or every garden,
playing field and golf course will be looking as grim soon enough,
so there is a wish for you Santa if you don’t mind please.
Next year the club will be going a little less formal
(more like a bunch of mates arranging a game amongst themselves)
so not sure at present when the next one is going to be.
For now this years winner of the GUSGC cup for 2019 is -
Paul Lockwood-Lee.
Now for the results for the Oxley game:
NTP on the 5th – Paul Lockwood-Lee
NTP on the 9th – David Geils
Mens Long drive 17th – David Giels
Ladies Long drive 17th – Karen Greedy
1st place on 43 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee
2nd place on 42 points – Dave Coster
3rd place on 36 points – Ken Greedy
Equal 3rd but missed out on countback - Karen Greedy
Have a lovely Christmas and New Year everyone.
Regards until we meet again, Paul (Captain)

Redland Bay Golf, November 2019

Redland Bay Golf, November 2019.
Good to see 8 players out bayside way for the penultimate game of the year.
All had difficulties on the slow, corred and recently scarified greens therefore the sooner you got to grips with them the better your overall standing was going to be (providing the rest of your game held up that is).

Smithy seemed to be that person, with a great start nine (22) and managed to hold it
together for the second nine keeping the pack away long enough to take the W.
Thankfully the weather held off, but I wasn’t taking any chances after getting drowned on the Friday prior, despite the BOM assuring me that there was little more than tiny shower on the horizon, my bag was full of every possible wet weather gear known to man. (man that bag was heavy)

Now for the results for the Redland Bay game:

NTP on the 6 th – Ian Smith
NTP on the 16 th – Ian Smith
Mens Long drive 17 th – Troy Grimshaw
Ladies Long drive 17 th – Karen Greedy
1 st place on 38 points – Ian Smith
2 nd place on 37 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee
3 rd place on 36 points – Phil Dawson

Next game is Oxley (Christmas game) on the 1st of December.

Regards until then,

Paul (Captain)

Wynnum game 8th October 2019

Wynnum game 8th October 2019

Happily, eight players made it for this round, with perfect (if a little dry) conditions giving rise to some very handy scores.
Wynnum must have used their whole suburbs water supply on the greens to get them to not only look good but play as slowly as they did, some of us who in recent weeks have been used to rapid parched greens had to re-adjust very quickly to have any chance of getting the ball to the hole.

Great to see David G and Troy back out there for this round, welcome back and thanks to the regulars who turned out of course, with everyone making a decent fist of the round (only 10 pts between top and bottom place is a reasonably close group)
Hope to see as many as possible next month.

Now for the results:
NTP on the 5th – Troy Grimshaw
NTP on the 16th – David Geils
Men’s Long drive 5th – Troy Grimshaw
Ladies Long drive – Karen Greedy
1st place on 41 points – Dave Coster
2nd place on 38 points – David Geils
3rd place on 36 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee

Next game is at Redland Bay on the 3rd of November at 7.00am tee off.

Regards until then.

Gailes Sept 8th, 2019

Gailes Sept 8th, 2019
Just the six of us made it to Gailes, which this year the rain thankfully held off, as this game has been cursed over the last few.
Having said that! The course and all of Brisbane, could do with a good downpour anytime soon, the fairways were fine but if you ran into the rough the ball could roll for ever, especially with the side hill slopes at Gailes.
I may be going mad, but I think there are far more bunkers on this course than there used to be. So, it now makes for some very tricky approach shots, which didn’t help in managing any reasonable point scores, not sure about toughening up courses for the average golfer (which many of us are) ah well!
Big thanks to Jason and Doug for coming along, hope you had a good morning out?

Now for the results:
NTP on the 3rd – Doug Chalmers
NTP on the 6th – Ian Smith
Men’s Long drive 9th – Jason Heffernan
Ladies Long drive n/a
1st place on 34 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee
2nd place on 31 points – Doug Chalmers
3rd place on 31 points – Dave Coster

Next game is at Wynnum on the 6th of October 7.44am tee off.

Regards until then.
