Oxley Golf Club, December 2018

Oxley Golf Club, December 2018

Good to see a healthy 11 players out in rather warm conditions for the last game of the season.

Many thanks to all those who have attended games this season, numbers were down a bit on last year, but with luck, a bit of cajoling of friends and the return of some regulars we may boost the head count in 2019.

Scores on the day were close with plenty of totals in the 30 plus range, which wasn’t too bad considering the greens appeared to have had some work done recently, needing a little prayer with each putt.

Now then the formality remains to announce the overall winner for the year, which happens to be someone I know very well, and It makes me happy to say that:

Paul Lockwood-Lee.

Is the 2018 GUSGC Champion (Yippee for me)

[Congratulations Paul - well earned consistency - Ian]

Now for the results for Oxley game in itself:

NTP on the 5th – Rohan Dowling

NTP on the 13th – n/a

Redland Bay game 11th November 2018

Redland Bay game 11th November 2018
Alas only 5 players made it for the battle of the bayside.
The course was in good condition, but the pin placements were tricky and recently cored/dethatched greens kept everyone guessing where the line was & how far the putts were going to go.
Scoring was kept to within six points from top to bottom between the five of us which made for a good match, all scores were in the 30`s which shows we all managed some degree of respectability.
Good to see David Geils back in the group for the first time in quite a while, fingers crossed for a return by him and hopefully a few more if not next month then at least next year.
Now for the results:
NTP on the 6th – David Geils
NTP on the 16th – Paul Wellington
Mens Long drive 9th – Paul Lockwood-Lee
Ladies Long drive – N/A
1st place on 37 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee
2nd place on 35 points – Paul Wellington
3rd place on 33 points – David Geils
Missing 3rd on countback Ken Greedy
(Dave Coster in 5th)
Thanks to all who made it to the game, a small crowd but a good day.
Next game is on the 2nd of December at Oxley 7.03am tee off.
Regards until then.

Gailes Golf Club - 14th October 2018

Gailes Golf Club - Sunday 14th October

Given the amount of rain around Brisbane, it was a minor miracle that we got 18 holes in on Sunday.

Many thanks to the 6 competitors that were optimistic enough to show up given the conditions - but I think everyone was pleasantly surprised at the course condition and to get away without being too wet. Thanks to Dave for booking Gailes this month and Redland Bay the next - as if it was the reverse then I don't think we would've played.

The course was in excellent condition - save the water in the GUR bunkers. They tell me the fairways were good - but I'll have to take others advice on that. The greens were certainly firm and fast and would become extremely interesting if it had've been dry.

And the winners were:

Winner: Dave Coster 37pts
2nd: Paul Wellington 36pts
3rd: Ian Smith 33pts

NTP 3rd hole: Paul Wellington
NTP 12th hole: Ian Smith
Long Drive: Ian Smith

Well done Dave in a close fight with the always consistent Paul.

Next round at Redland Bay where we will hoping for the tide to be out.

I'll leave it to Paul L-L to put the points table together.

cheers
Ian

Wynnum game 9th September 2018

Wynnum game 9th September 2018
Alas only three players for this game at Wynnum on a fine spring day, late pull out’s and a few colds meant the 3 placegetters were known before the first tee.
We all had good front nines with the standout being Dave who managed 24pts, but sadly he couldn’t maintain the hot form into the second half although he still managed a very decent overall card.
With the small field the question was who would take out the long drive, Smithy was the obvious answer, but happily for me his booming drive just tailed off to the right rough by a couple of inches therefore my name went into that slot for only the second time (last one too many years ago) so thanks Ian, I wont get that again for a while.

Now for the results:
NTP on the 5th – Ian Smith
NTP on the 16th – Ian Smith
Men’s Long drive 7th – Paul Lockwood-Lee
Ladies Long drive – n/a
1st place on 38 points – Paul Lockwood-Lee
2nd place on 37 points – Dave Coster
3rd place on 30 points – Ian Smith

Next game is at Gailes on the 14th of October at 6.30am tee off.
Regards until then.
