Gainsborough Greens – Shield Game 2014

Gainsborough Greens – Shield Game 2014

The big question for this game was how many would turn up? After a wild night of weather on Saturday and the forecast suggesting lots more for the Sunday (game day) I was feeling a bit lonely for a while until some headlights started to appear in the car-park.
Well we did end up with 10 players (big thanks to you all) and the rain was the main absentee (thanks to the big guy in the sky or the met office, whichever you believe in.

A random draw took place, as we only had one low handicapper with us, and the teams set out on the soggy but in the circumstances pretty good condition course.

The team of Ian & Phil came in first by the proverbial country mile, and are now the proud holders of the shield for the coming year (good luck fitting your names on the thing).

Thanks to Gainsborough for only charging us for the attendees and for the very good lunch afterwards, I think a definite possible for the same next year.
And thanks to the club for the subsidised rate for this one off game in our busy season.

Here are the full results for Gainborough:

1st place on a score of 61.5 nett – Ian Smith & Phil Dawson
2nd place on a score of 66 nett – Karen Greedy & Mark Coster
3rd place on a score of 68 nett – Dan Williams & Peter Johnston
4th place on a score of 70 nett – George Chapman & Paul Lockwood-Lee
5th place on a score of 84.5 nett – Judith Chapman & Dave Coster

NTP on the 3rd – not taken
NTP on the 15th – Mark Coster
Men’s L/D 4th – Mark Coster
Ladies L/D 4th – not taken

(Shield game has no bearing on the league table as it’s a stand alone event)

The next game for the club championship is Redland Bay on the 14th of September – 7.00pm tee off.

Paul (Captain)

Keperra Game 13 July 2014

Keperra Game 13 July 2014

We had 14 slightly chilled players for this game & the cold start did none of the older bones in our field any favours, I think we we’re all waiting for it to warm up a bit before we could get any sort of feeling in our hands.

The course was in was in normal Keperra condition the first 9 (10-18) were ok but you still notice a drop in conditions on the second (19-27) holes. Certainly not resort style, but then it gives us something to do when we get home & clean the dust & dirt off our clubs which I’m sure we are all in the habit of doing?

The ladies hadn’t warmed up enough before the long drive hole came up as alas neither of them we’re able to stick it on the fairway. The quickly redesignated NTP on the 27th was also missed, so the club saved a couple of balls on the day.

Karen was again up there in the places with her forth second place of the season (nearly five as she missed out on a count-back in another game) Mr Smith got home for third place & I’m sorry folks but I had another good round on the go & took first, I’m sure this slope system is helping me but I’m just as sure I’ll be handicapped further by the time the next game comes around.

Here are the results for Keperra:

1st place on 41pts – Paul Lockwood-Lee
2nd place on 37pts – Karen Greedy
3rd place on 34pts – Ian Smith

NTP on the 25th – Karen Greedy
NTP on the 27th – not taken
Men’s L/D 13th – Andrew Mather
Ladies L/D 13th – not taken

Next game is the shield game at Gainsborough Greens at 6.52am (17/8/14), special team selection process takes place for this game & half (sort of) points on the league table apply (3, 2 & 1)

Regards,
Paul (Captain)

Redcliffe game 22nd June 2014

Redcliffe game 22nd June 2014.

Thanks to the 17 players who attended the northern most game for us this year. It’s pleasing to see we are generally getting five groups hitting off these days, so thanks to all the relatively new players who have stuck around and to all the old heads who we just can’t get rid of.

The course was in fairly good condition I thought & once the morning dew cleared the greens became a little more legible, I hope everyone had a good game (including Judith, who was having a hard time, George who was trying to assist Judith  threw his early game away worrying about her)
There was a new name on the top of the scoreboard this time around, so congratulations to Nigel Stork (just don’t make a habit of it) and then of course coming in behind was Karen (Miss-consistency) with yet another second place, and finally Janine taking out the last available points for the round, well done to you all.
Here are the full results for Redcliffe:
1st place on 41pts – Nigel Stork
2nd place on 37pts – Karen Greedy
3rd place on 35pts – Janine Walker

NTP on the 2rd – Nigel Stork
NTP on the 13th – not taken
Men’s L/D 9th – Troy Grimshaw
Ladies L/D 9th – Jane Hughes

Next game is at Keperra on the 13th of July at 7.04am.

Paul (Captain)

Gailes game 25th May 2014

Gailes game 25th May 2014.

18 Players on a beautiful day at Gailes, a little cool in for the first couple of holes but after that almost perfect.

The nearest the pin holes are always tricky on this course & this proved to be the case again this year with nobody hitting either of the two greens allocated (oh well saves a couple of balls for the club)

I knew Karen was going well on the front nine when I glanced at her card, but George came home with a wet sail to steal second place due to a better 10 thru 18 score (as they both had only one hole missing a stableford point)

I’m happy to say I had a good game also & took the top spot. It may be difficult to emulate this again for a while after the recuperating handicapper has done his magic, but I’ll take it whilst I can.

Here are the results for Gailes:

1st place on 40pts – Paul Lockwood-Lee

2nd place on 37pts – George Chapman

3rd place on 37pts – Karen Greedy

NTP on the 3rd – not taken

NTP on the 12th – not taken

Men’s L/D 10th – Troy Grimshaw

Ladies L/D 10th – Jane Hughes

Next game is at Redcliffe on the 22nd of June at 6.26am.

Paul (Captain)

Jimboomba Game 13th April 2014

14 Players for what could be described as a fairly brutal (the front 9 certainly) game at Hills golf course.
Good knowledge of this course is a must to work your way around here, it looks like Troy & Karen had the measure of the uphill & downhill lays and the watery graves, to both come home with very respectable point totals, with Karen just missing out on count-back. Good play you pair.

Apologies for the mad shuffle in the morning with all the carts suddenly thrown into the mix at the last minute stuffing my original groupings right up and my last minute print of the handicaps list missed the ladies ratings (my mistake) but I think I got them right in the end, very special apology to Bryan who didn’t know who he was with until the last moment, it may have just disrupted his game enough to miss out on a placing.

Here are the results for Jimboomba:

1st place on 42pts – Troy Grimshaw
2nd place on 42pts – Karen Greedy
3rd place on 35pts – Paul Lockwood-Lee
3rd but missing out on count-back – Rodney Topor

NTP on the 8th – Troy Grimshaw
NTP on the 13th – Ian Smith
Men’s L/D 18th – Ian Smith
Ladies L/D 18th – Janine Walker

Next game is at Gailes on the 25th of May at 7.00am.
& get well soon to all our missing players (and those who played with injuries)

Regards,
Paul (Captain)

McLeod Golf Club - 16/3/2014

A strong 13 players showed up for the glorious weather and found a golf course in very good condition. Probably the best I've seen it ...but, like most turf in SEQ, needing some water.

Interesting scorecards they use and thanks to Karen for ensuring the ladies had the appropriate cards and indexes. With all those columns it was easy to get confused.

Welcome aboard to new member Nigel Stork - who promptly ran off with the Long Drive!

Some interesting results given our use of the new slope handicap system and McLeod being considered a hard course. Most players received 3 extra shots - except poor Troy and I who only received 1! [I can hear the tiny violins playing from here...:-)]

Here are the results:

1st place - Dave Coster [47pts] [Yes - he should be embarrassed].
2nd place - Regan Dent [41pts] ...hang on, he's not eligible until his 3rd round...cool
real 2nd place - Ian Smith [40pts]
3rd place - Jane Hughes [38pts] ..welcome back Jane.

Long drive ladies [and longest overall!] - Karen Greedy
Long drive men - Nigel Stork
NTP 6th - Rodney Topor
NTP 16th - Ian Smith

Hopefully the real Captain will be back for the next event which is "The Hills - Jimboomba" on 13/4. This will also be our AGM. So if you want to make sure you aren't voted into a position...make sure you are there!

cheers
Ian
